A Story Shaped Over Time

The history of Palmas Restaurant Group begins long before the company’s current footprint across Disney property. It is a story of place, family, hospitality, and a long tradition of sharing Mexican culture through food and experience.

From Historic Roots to a Modern Restaurant Group

The Palmas story traces back to the historic San Angel property in Mexico, later connected to San Angel Inn and, over time, to the family and hospitality legacy that now carries forward through Palmas Restaurant Group. That history eventually led to a defining opportunity: bringing Mexican culture and cuisine to Walt Disney World through the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT.

Today, Palmas carries that heritage forward through restaurants, lounges, quick-service locations, and resort venues shaped by hospitality, culture, and long-term stewardship.

Palmas at a Glance

17th-century origins

Palmas’ roots connect to the historic residence associated with San Angel Inn in Mexico City, giving the company a heritage story grounded in Mexican culture, hospitality, and place.

1982

San Angel Inn opens as part of the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT, introducing guests to Mexican cuisine and culture in a setting that becomes foundational to the Palmas story.

1997

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort opens, and Palmas expands to a second major operating environment on Disney property.

2009

La Cava del Tequila opens in the Mexico Pavilion, adding a tequila-focused lounge experience to the Palmas portfolio.

2010

La Hacienda de San Angel opens, expanding the Mexico Pavilion dining offering with a new table-service restaurant.

2016

Frontera Cocina opens in Disney Springs in collaboration with Chef Rick Bayless, marking Palmas’ expansion into a contemporary Disney Springs restaurant concept.

Today

Palmas operates 13 locations across EPCOT, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney Springs.

History That Still Shapes the Business

Palmas does not treat history as decoration. The company’s heritage still informs how it presents Mexican culture, how it thinks about hospitality, and how it approaches long-term stewardship across its locations.

The story matters because it explains the present: a family-owned restaurant group built around culture, care, and memorable guest experiences.

Carried Forward Across Generations

Palmas is family-owned and has been carried forward through three generations. That continuity is part of what gives the company its long-term perspective and steady approach to hospitality.

Across decades of growth, Palmas has remained connected to family leadership, cultural stewardship, and care for the guest experience.

Where the Story Lives Today

Today, the Palmas story continues across three operating destinations on Disney property: the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney Springs. Those locations express the company’s history in different ways, from long-standing pavilion experiences to resort dining and a contemporary Disney Springs restaurant concept.
